- 01Yes, we are affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
- 02This is a three years course and you get a degree in Bachelors of Science in Hospitality Studies from the University of Mumbai.
- 03Kindly check with the administration office for the current status on amount of fees.
- 04No. Our fees are all inclusive. It includes all the material required for the practical. We also provide five sets of uniform including a formal suit, various kits of – Production & Bakery, F & B service and Housekeeping, also formal shoes and stationery kit with files and journals required for that academic year.
- 05The course is dived into six Semesters. From Semester I to Semester IV all the exams are conducted by the college. The University of Mumbai conducts the exams for Semester V and Semester VI which is in the third and final year.
- 06Yes. We have qualified and experienced faculty many with significant experience within the industry.
- 07The four core subjects of this industry are Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office and Housekeeping and they are compulsory for all the Semester, from Semester I to Semester V. In Semester VI has specialization and you have to choose two subjects between the four according to the group we have, herein students are guided to select the most suitable group. The core subjects have theory and practical components under individual heading/ marking. Besides this, there are other subjects which are theory subjects and compulsory ancillary subjects that are taught, spread over various semesters. Please refer prospectus.
- 08Yes. In the second year, one of the two Semesters, either Semester III or Semester IV is for internship of 120 days.
- 09Yes, we do place students for internship. You have an option to arrange your own internship too!
- 10We conduct on campus interviews with almost all the five star properties and allied industry organizations and we have almost a 100 % placement record so far.
- 11You will be selected at semi-managerial level for eg: hotel operation trainee/ chef trainee and if you perform excellent during the interview you could be chosen for the position of Management Trainee. All the same, each hotel or organization has a different entry point. It may well depend on the establishment you get selected for.
- 12Our selection process is strictly on merit based of 12th class examination (Arts/ Science or Commerce – Any stream).
- 131. You have to go to the Mumbai University portal and apply therein. The name of the college you have to type – ‘Sophia Smt. Manorama Devi Somani college, Mumbai.’ 2. You will also have to apply to this College & register with a form available for a nominal fee. 3. Together with the form we need: I. Originals and photocopies of 10th and 12th standard mark sheet and pass certificates II. Leaving certificate III. Transfer certificate (for outstation student) IV. Migration certificate (if not from Maharashtra Board) V. Baptism certificate (for Christian students) VI. Disability certificate (for students with learning disability) VII. Two passport size photographs VIII. Aadhaar card photocopy
- 14No. Our course is co-education.
- 15Yes, this is a Christian minority institute and 50 % quota is reserved for Christian students.
- 16We do have hostel facility for Girls ONLY. Provision for hostel facility is subject to interview with the Warden and Principal both. Hostel fees are separate.
- 17We are operational from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturday from 8.30 to 12.30 noon.
- 18Although the University of Mumbai requires 75 % attendance we emphasize on 100 % because this is a practical oriented course which YOU have chosen.
- 19We have an annual exhibition which is a showcase of the budding talents of chefs and managers. This is integrated into the semester VI subject of ‘Event planning, marketing and management’ in the third year. This is a coveted event which is looked upon by most colleges and industry’s who’s who. Besides we have several other events during the year.
- 20Yes. We have a professional counselor available to our students. Besides, every teacher is mentor for eight students under him or her. They keep a close watch on the students and their daily performance. We know our students at a very close quarter and there is a class teacher too who is in charge of them.
